If you've seen recent coverage of the 3 schemes that have been proposed for the New Sports Hub in Singapore, you'll know that weirdly, 2 out of 3 schemes have mysterious tiger-like stripes on them. What's with that? Also, apparently Herzog & de Meuron have been roped in to join the Alpine Consortium that produced the 'crumpled paper'-looking scheme....which is actually an ETFE-clad stadium. Let's talk about Singapore's future Sports Hub.

From an ST Forum:
'Used Tissue' Sports Hub design gets his vote
THE long wait is over and the final design proposals for the Sports Hub have been announced.

The irreverent may refer to the options as the Pimple (Singapore Sports Hub Consortium's dome design), the Toilet Seat (SingaporeGold's horseshoe design announced last year) and the Used Tissue (Alpine Mayreder's revolutionary fabric-wrapped design).

All three designs have merit but the one by Alpine Mayreder stands out. As an evolution from the stunning Alliance Arena in Munich, it offers an iconic design with proven technology. Its form is also the most complementary to the timeless lines of the existing indoor stadium.

The Used Tissue has my firm vote.
